so so pretty, so pretty and gay
ok, so i'm in a better place about the whole gay thing. i think it's because lil' jerry and i had a good email diss-cussion about everything that's lacking in the GAY-T-L. that and i had too many a few drinks with some of the gays last night and it was actually enjoyable. who'dathunk?

anyway, so it was me and j-square and the junior league executive committee last night at tamarind for little twonie's birthday. j-square is a "gentleman of a certain age" and me, i guess i'm the junior league's senior advisor, or something. tamarind is lovely -- top-shelf thai served up, oddly, next to the interstate. max and meg joined us for some piper and we proceeded to kill a few bottles. cut to mid city cafe, a good outside table and a random confluence of crowds, including the assistant, cq and flippy, the giant man-bear. we witnessed a very poorly executed drug deal and i got many compliments on my very plaid pants. it was good times. however, i was forced to teach the waitress/bartender (never a good idea) how to make and serve a proper manhattan. she still fucked it up. alas.

diane and i went on a real real good hard bike ride this morning. i lost her on one of the hills and have been laying low since.

so the weekend promises not a whole lot. i'd really like to get laid and am actively and openly soliciting. let me know if you're interested. it's come to that.

bunches of folks headed to ptown so that leaves us drunks here to fend for ourselves. i think we'll manage.

we are family
back in the saddle after Gay Christmas. 'twas a fun weekend. here's the 4-1-1.

friday: hellacious trip back from NY including a new 737 windshield and an hour and a half delay on the laguardia tarmac. neat. the big pre-pride party thrown by the most random assortment of friends and acquaintances ever was quite the success. i missed seeing anderson by 5 minutes or so.

saturday: up early and worked out. then spent the entire day getting ready for sunday's Bagels and Bloodies Brunch. visited several speedo-clad friends in the park seling beer for the swim team, ate chinese take-out and was home by 9. sat on the porch and watched the heavens open up for the first time in about a month. all of my neighbors emerged on their porches to watch this new thing called rain.

sunday: was at eriK's by 9 and we had everything ready at 10:30. the Gays started showing up around 11 or so. a GREAT day was had by all. in fact, once the torrents of rain and bolts of lightning cancelled Pride, what was supposed to be a pre-pride brunch, turned into an all-day drink fest on eriK's porch. good times. i then made the mistake of attending the big gay tea-dance. what a waste. sounds, not songs and dark moody sounds at that. yuk. joelene and i tried everything in our powers to eek out some fun, to no avail. but i did get plenty of lesbian gossip involving an odd assortment of female friends. them girls are worse than us guys.

monday: in pretty good shape, surprisingly. helped eriK clean up then had lunch at 6-feet under then flirted with his oh-so-hot neighbor. napped, made some chicken salad and called it a day.

i got a new attitude
not really, but i feel better.

paint a big "L" on my forehead...for Loser: so i'm in New York, not for days upon days of meetings but for a 3-day conference where, basically, one does nothing but watch cool commercials and look at cutting edge design. so naturally, one would want to venture out and experience all the big apple has to offer...during Pride week. but no, it seems i've got a sore throat i can't seem to shake. so i've laid low, wisely resting and otherwise resisting the many temptations of the city (and that includes brazil, for you SAOP readers). anti-biotics await at home. let's hope i can drink and be in the sun 'cause those things are definitely on the weekend agenda.

but all is not lost. i heard perhaps the greatest speech of my life yesterday from dr. angelou. i felt priviledged to be addressed so eloquently and lucky to witness what might be one of her remaining appearances. push aside the bombast and witness the humanity. simply amazing.

and, we've eaten pretty well. spotted pig wednesday, pastisse for lunch yesterday and prune for dinner last night. i so love prune and one of the waitresses actually remembered me. ~swoon~ . for dinner: pureed grape, garlic and almond "gazpacho," bitter green salad and fried sweetbreads. heaven.

back to the ATL this afternoon. on tap: pride parties galore, collecting a stool sample for the dog, the gym, sunday brunch preparations and perhaps a spin or two on the dance floor. rock on, y'all.

where the streets have no names
what is normally a great conference is only so-so this year. where's depak chopra? no martha stewart? i feel gipped. there's a rumor that maya angelou will appear but i have yet to figure out what she has to do with tv promotion and marketing. call me crazy. (could be the oprah connection....).

we did have a great dinner last night at the spotted pig. i don't get the hype though. i mean, my mom can cook quail that makes theirs pale in comparison.

and that's about it. lots of hot cyclists in the park this morning. gam city.

interstate love song
i think this weekend was the proverbial quiet before the storm....in a good way, of course. gay pride being the "storm."

here's a quick run-down of my weekend:
friday -- had a real nice discussion about dog shit with the vet. treated myself to a nice dinner of seared ahi tuna and steamed asparagus. then waited. and waited. and waited for eriK who said he'd be there no later than 9. cut to 10:30 and 8 people on the porch drinking skinnies. cut to blake's, pnb, hottie mclegs, little john. good times. tragic turnout.

saturday -- checked out the morningside farmer's market. more specifically, i checked out the Hottest Farmer on Earth. huge hands, dark beard, piercing blue eyes. bought tomatoes, eggs, blueberries, free range organic grass-fed pork guaranteed-happy-pig-sausage. worked out. grocery shopped. made my world famous gazpacho. napped. then i attended a coworker's barbeque and left VERY glad that i'm a big fag. twon was calling me as i was calling him and soon several junior leaguers were on the porch drinking my licker. cut to the heretic, another ugly and tragic night. what's up with that?

sunday -- diane and i slept in till about 11. moving in slow motion, i got things ready for dinner, featuring ms b and mr hands' family. good times, good food and nothing fancy.

this morning i took care of bushie's dogs, who were very glad to see me. and yes, bret, everybody's fine.

on tap for the week, an easy week in new york. gonna see if i can't get in to some trouble, too.

even the losers get lucky sometime
i hate office politics, i hate office politics, i hate office politics.
and nothing's worse than losing to someone who, really, upon deeper considersation, knows not what they're doing. lesson learnt.

and while i'm on it....
NOTE TO THE STRAIGHTS THAT INVADED MY NEIGHBORHOOD LAST NIGHT FOR THE FREE MOVIE:
there are parking rules and traffic laws; follow them. scarves do not make good body suits. diets are good and make one more attractive. maybe if you took public transportation and actually walked, you'd be there by now. yes, it's hot; it happens every summer. quit your bitching.
thanks, john.

in other news, gay pride is soon upon us. i'm embracing it this year, 70's style and to excess. look for freedom rings, cut-off daisy dukes, timberlands and chest hair in the very near future. there's an oversized rainbow flag adorning the house and i'd grow a bushy mustache if it were possible...

* my gary fisher pirahna ~swoon~
* all, and i mean ALL, the gays up in Shout. good times.

all in a day
sometimes i feel a tish of liberal guilt when the maid comes. i mean, i'm perfectly capable of cleaning my house myself. but then i notice that maria has sold her used escort and now has a panel van with custom signage for her business and i don't feel so guilty. she's got herself a thriving little business. ah, the wonders of capitalism! (not to mention a damn fine argument against the republifacists' immigration policies).

i wanted to post pictures of this morning's bike ride but the camera died...at the site formerly known as backstreet. coincidence? i think not.

not much else to report on. on tap for the weekend: atlanta film festival tonight, a luncheon tomorrow, dinner for marykate and ashley and maybe hanging with the gays up at shout on sunday. i mean, the deej is spinning and who am i to not support my friends?

a lock of hair, a belt he wore
i really should be sitting here with diane but apparently she feels worse than i do. funny, that.

anyway, had a great work dinner last night with friends from new york. we went to....that's right, ecco! 3rd time in a week -- jeez. i'm officially over dried meat and cheese boards. i am not, however, over t.w., the hot-as-hell, sexually ambiguous, dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks waiter. do i go for 4? stay tuned.

puerto rico keeps booty-texting. not sure what's up with that.

i need to have a great night's sleep and some major exercise cause the weekend is stacking with serious potential for FUN.

you can do whatever you feel
last night as i sat at the Braves game with 30,000 mostly white, mostly middle class heterosexuals and watched them sing and dance to the Village People's "YMCA," the irony of the situation hit me like several thousand tons of brick. here, on the very day their president launches an open offensive against homosexuals as a political ploy, they exuberently dance and since to a song that celebrates gay men having as much sex as possible. all these overfed, underthought fuckers dancing to my music, having their cake and gorging themselves on it too. it makes me sick.

so very sickened
all i'm gonna say about shithead, the president, is that he sure is grasping at straws. it's pathetic and disgusting and i hope he rots in hell.

now that that's out of the way, my weekend was great, thanks for asking.

after my nap friday, i went to the le whole foods and bought some halibut and the prettiest okra ever. and maybe some wine. after dinner, at dusk, the thunderstorm ended and the eerie purple light beckoned me outside. i rode my bike around the neighborhood, stealthily exploring alleyways and side streets that were previously passed unnoticed. got muddy in the park and discovered a scary apartment colony mere blocks from my house. hmmmm.

my anti-social behavior continued most of saturday. rode to the gym and kicked it with a grinding back and bicep set; chatted with the varsity co-captain and caught a glance of PNB, looking slim and trim and well-shorn. turkey sure was good to him, no? i spent the rest of the day laying low, working in the yard, folding 2 weeks worth of laundry (least. favorite. chore. ever), not going to birthday parties, riding my bike again. emerged from my shell to cross the street for a cocktail party. chatted up the aforementioned mercedes-driving future ex-husband. yowzah! who knew 43 could look so good?! dinner at the sharley-turnbulls followed and we all know where that leads...to the eagle, apparently. home and comatose by 2.

slept in and enjoyed the paper on the porch with the doggies. went on a half-assed ride to nowhere in particular. feeling rebelious, i rode through the Piano piazza at the High. no one noticed. trey and bret came by as i was putting together chicken salad and sat with me for an hour. they were shirtless and lemme tell ya, somebody better watch out.....we gossiped and drank beer, put the food up then rode to barry's. there were several of the gays there celebrating vahi summerfest. even a few cute ones. maybe one ex-trick.

cut to me at the world's busiest airport awaiting my parents' arrival. main observation: americans are fat and ugly and addicted to their cell phones. the rev and mrs are fine, their trip to alaska wonderful. we ate at ecco and the skies parted and the sun shone into that wonderful space. we noshed and talked and sampled and asked questions and drank good wine and generally enjoyed ourselves very much. mom caused a minor disturbance at the cheese case, noting the presence of a rather large housefly on the gorganzola. atta girl!

i made some progress on my new writing project. will make revisions to my first "chapter" then begin the second. i also decided that i really have nothing to lose and should go ahead and pitch the loaf and see i can resurrect my column. i mean, hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

jump
eriK and i ate at ecco last night. not quite sure what to make of it but i think i'll like. i got past the fact that it's on what used to be THE sleeziest corner in all of atlanta, 7th and cypress. and i'm glad they didn't tear down the old fencing club, a little gem of a 50s international style building. the interior is stunning in the most subtle way and our service was friendly (maybe even flirty), well-paced and knowlegable. but i can't figure out the food. italian? american? old world? fig glazed lamb and peekytoe crab stuffed tomatoes and pizzas? all this means that, of course, i'll have to go back. the chorizo and grilled pears sure were good, though.

then we went (of course) to halo where we stood in the empty cavernous room for about one drink. sad, that. so we trucked it over to wet bar where it was much the same except we knew the other 12 people there. yogajason was there with hottiehairjason. the towering chrises were there. pinwheel bob too. good times. i was a smart boy and hitched a ride with chris and chris, trying to outwit diane. but she's crafty that way and has escorted me to work. fun.

i don't really have much to say. for once. geez.

had a pretty adequate ride this morning, nothing too strenuous as my leg workout last night was tough. sore ass today and not in a good way. the summer oppression is here about 3 weeks early.

must. remove. down. comforter.

tonight: dinner at a new spot with eriK.

just discovered pandora. i predict major cash outflow reinvestment into music.
