hand in glove
wow, what a morning! how 'bout a gorgeous late summer/early fall list:

* pain-free dental proceedure. best. ever.
* pre-work rides now mean darkness. which, of course, brings out the sketchies.
* morning sunrise in pink and gold.
* 7am wake-up for the "urban campers"
* amy winehouse. really.
* oatmeal and strawberries.
* someone has a date tonight.
* cross-country travel.
* the incredible shrinking president.

sunshine, blue skies
what a gorgeous morning! it hasn't been this nice since maybe april. no wonder southerners are a little off. our brains cook for 5 months a year.

not much else to say. i slept so soundly last night that i missed the alarm and my ride this morning. pity. i have a date tomorrow night then fly out to california thursday for some really nice client entertainment. sometimes work does not suck.

i said no, no, no!
the Amy Winehouse Beatification Society will now be adjourned.

good lord, what a weekend. i have no idea if the planets were specially aligned or if they put something in the water or maybe it was just the fact that the freakin' heat finally broke, but this place was OFF. THE. HOOK. and not just one day, but the entire weekend.

here's what i can scrape together from what's left of my memory:

friday i had a good workout and got my pre-party cooking done by, oh 6:30. that's when the trouble arrived in the person of trey. trey is one of my oldest friends and a pot-stirrer extraordinaire (we met sophomore year at auburn and are fraternity brothers and just generally partners in crime). we made g&t's then came eriK. then 'twon, jason, little robert, foreman, chris and chris. somehow i got everyone out of the house and to the heretic. at 1 a.m. and all those queens there were just plain wasted. i mean, really. the dj was throwing down some feee-yarce music including rhiannan's "jesus got the music." (i know, but humor me). cut to the 2:30a.m. roach lights and me banning people from my porch at 3.

somehow i got up and was out the door by 10:30, running errands for matt's 40th birthday bash. meg, connie, me and ms. b were hosting chez moi. the day was gorgeous, the fifth street relatively quiet and the chores dispensed with with ease. ms b came and went, delivering flowers, tables, cakes and good cheer. there's not much better in my book than getting ready to entertain. i'm an OSW that way, i guess (OSW=Old Southern Woman) and i've pretty much got it down to a T. but i digress.

this shot is me and tim o. good times. anyway, so the party started out slowly, like they always do. at some point it reached critical mass and became really, really fun. twas a big, diverse crowd, a nice reflection of matt's personality and friendships. highlights for me were having my neighbor jennifer there, shamara and crew, meg in dirty school-girl attire, matt having to be extracted around 12:30 and a certain shavey mchotterton magically appearing in my living room (this after a full summer of playing cat and mouse with the man....). here's dale exhibiting a poor choice in milnery (with philip and shamara in the background):

there's joel making love to cake along with the birthday boy (just prior to extraction), b and the ever-lovely christina, who was much fun too. and the kitchen shot says alot. somehow i got everyone out of the house by 1 and was coerced into going to the eagle. now, i thought we'd just walk, but no, we rode in brad's fancy schmancy mercedes convertible. imagine 100 hirsute bears on a patio heckling 4 somewhat preppy queens parking their benz in the lot below. it was funny. anyway, the real reason i went to the eagle was that the object of my desires was headed that way. it took me all of 11.5 minutes to extract him...

oh, how i love sunday morning spooning!

chapter 3 - sunday clean up.
ms b and the birthday boy came over about noon with bagels to help me clean up. surprisingly the mess was minimal and we even filled recycling bins, green citizens that we are. trey, bret-anne and klyph for some reason were on an exercise kick and stopped by on their bikes. that's when the drinking trouble began. connie arrived and we sat on the porch recanting the night's activities...till about 7. ufff. enough would have been enough, but eriK showed up and made bret and i accompany him to blake's. which was, predictably, off the hook. what the....?! i seem to remember thinking i was in ptown, trying meet everyone in the bar. i got home to messages about connie crawling through the dog door, the alarm going off, a reschedule date (when it rains, it apparently pours) and a "hey it was great seeing you last night/this morning" voicemail. and that, my friends, makes today's malaise 100% bearable.

you and me and the heat of delirious love
it's come to quoting neil diamond....

anyway, i love the rain and all but there seems to be a leak in my car. there was a good inch of water on the driver's side this morning. i suspect the sunroof drains are clogged. wonder how much that'll set me back. ~sigh~

dinner last night with walt, philip and bret was great. tamee was cranky but that didn't stop us from having fun. note to restaurant owners: never hire low talkers as waiters.

and here's a treat for your weekend, courtesy of Tracy, aka Mommy:

turn around bright eyes
overheard on Commercial Street:

OSW: God, my eyes are watering.

E: Well, why is that, OSW?

OSW: I think there's something in my contacts.

E: But, OSW...you don't WEAR contacts!

OSW: What?!?

but i love new york
one of my goals this year has been to "do" more on my trips out of town. in the past, i've been one to work all day and then hole-up in the hotel, work-out or dine solo. like a good jewish mother, my friend jb has used a special combination of enthusiasm, charm and hebrew guilt to nudge me out of my anti-social habits (i know, my only anti-social habit, hive member that i am). two trips ago it was "meet the husband." and this trip it was simply "let's have dinner." that's all it took. see, i'm getting better!

anyway, last night was great with the added cameo appearance of two of my favorite queens: one being a world-famous interior designer and the other, well, The Lady Bunny. Bunny was walkin' up greenwich on her way to the atm and then the Marc Jacobs show. no big deal, just a 6-3ish blond bombshell wearing a shimmery macrame' one-piece and high heels doing her thing, saying hi to the boys.

you gotta love this town.

in a west end town
i am back and in one piece. but just barely. apprently i caught the Cape Cough (from a handsome Bostonian, no doubt). i was about down for the count but i "modelled through," as Cliff calls it.

the ferry over was lots of fun, most of us behaving like girls on their way to summer camp. which, come to think of it, was entirely appropriate. we arrived in ptown to find it socked-in with a heavy late summer fog. lovely.

after a not-so-lovely night's sleep outside (there were no rooms in the H&H inn, i took a very early morning walk. i saw jesus for the first time that week. the second was at the A-House. long story.

a lot of sitting around on patios was done...some private, some not.

we dance with each other. and with the Hat Sisters. and took the same PTown Harbor pix we always do.

and then there was a pink party. oh lord. seen: annelle from Steel Magnolias. and then my camera ran out of memory.

more to come, y'all....

she's got herself a little piece of heaven

well, it's that time of year (again) when i make what's becoming a pretty damn frequent pilgrimage to provincetown. the other day i wondered if maybe i was getting tired of it. then my head was flooded with 8 years of fantastic memories. and in ptown, i keep discovering new and wonderous things. i often wonder what's next. above all, it's nice to have found a place you can truly go back to.

there will be a lack of posts here as i escape this dreadfully long, hot, oppressive southern summer for the cooler climes of the cape. but you can bet there will be stories and maybe even a few pictures on my return.

peace out, y'all.

live to tell
you know, listening to senator craig this morning on NPR, i lost count of how many times he said "i am not gay." to quote a certain english playwright, "methinks thou dost protest too friggin' much."

of course the downside of all this is that now the straight world is being taught the particulars of "gay cruising." which means it's certain to become all the rage with the straights, copycats that they are.

this morning's sun was a huge reddish-pink ball, but only for a brief moment. twas a nice counterpart to the silvery gray full moon. my bike rides don't suck.

the clock is ticking and i'm in high efficiency mode. t minus 48 or so hours, y'all. let's hope i can make it.
